What the job is

We are hiring a Data Engineer with strong Databricks skills to join iOCO in Johannesburg, Gauteng. This is a contract role where you will design, build, and maintain data solutions in a modern data environment for Nedbank. You will work on creating reliable data pipelines and integrating data from various sources to support analytics and reporting.

What you will do

You will design and develop scalable data pipelines using Databricks. You will build and optimize ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and deliver data. You will integrate data from multiple internal and external sources, including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. You will ensure data quality, integrity, and availability across all pipelines. You will also troubleshoot pipeline failures, optimize performance, and document technical solutions. Additionally, you will collaborate with Data Architects, Analysts, and other teams to support data governance and security standards.

What you need

You need proven experience as a Data Engineer in complex data environments, with strong hands-on skills in Databricks, Apache Spark, and PySpark. You must have strong SQL skills and experience with Python for data engineering. Knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, and integrating data from APIs, databases, and files is required. Experience with version control, modern software development practices, and performance optimization is also necessary. A relevant degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
