What the job is

The Chief Pilot position is offered by African Parks Network and is based in Badingilo, South Sudan. This role involves overseeing and managing all aerial support operations for the organization in South Sudan, Ethiopia, and nearby areas. The job is part of the conservation efforts in Badingilo National Park.

What you will do

You will serve as the Pilot in Command for various aircraft, including Cessna 206, Cessna 182, Cessna 172, and ICP Savannah. Your responsibilities include conducting safe and compliant flights for logistics, passenger transport, surveillance, research, and general aerial support. You will ensure all flights meet legal and performance standards and manage aircraft, aircrew, and infrastructure compliance. Additionally, you will handle permits, maintenance, fuel, and spare parts management, as well as safety and risk management for aerial and ground operations. You will also oversee the recruitment and management of pilots, maintain aviation facilities, and assist with budgeting and procurement.

What you need

You must hold a Commercial Pilot’s License issued by the relevant Civil Aviation authority, with ratings for the specified aircraft. A minimum of 1500 hours of total fixed-wing flight time, including at least 500 hours of bush flying experience, is required. You should have a valid instrument flight rating, a current Class 1 medical certificate, and at least 3 years of aviation oversight or management experience. Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills are essential, along with a passion for conservation and wildlife. Experience in aircraft maintenance and working in remote areas is advantageous.
