This is a full-time position for a Senior Firmware Engineer at a well-known South African company that designs and manufactures security communication devices like GSM/LTE communicators and alarm panels. The company is based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and is looking for someone with strong technical skills to develop and maintain the firmware that powers their products.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop firmware using C/C++ for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers
- Create and optimize communication protocols (GSM/LTE, UART, SPI, I2C)
- Collaborate with software teams on OTA updates, cloud services, and device provisioning
- Work with hardware engineers on product development, debugging, and manufacturing standards
- Implement diagnostics, error recovery, and low-power strategies
- Lead code reviews, set coding standards, and create technical documentation
- Ensure compliance with South African regulatory requirements (ICASA)
- Mentor junior engineers

Requirements:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in embedded firmware/software development
- Strong C/C++ skills for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers
- Experience with RTOS (FreeRTOS) or bare-metal development
- Hands-on experience with cellular modems (GSM, 2G, 3G, LTE) and AT command sets
- Knowledge of hardware peripherals (UART, SPI, I2C, DMA) and debugging tools (JTAG/SWD)
- Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and build systems
- Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science

Bonus:
- Experience with alarm panels, telemetry, or security products
- Knowledge of secure OTA update systems and low-power devices
- Familiarity with ICASA radio compliance and scripting (Python)
