What the job is
A mining consulting company in Cape Town, Western Cape, needs a Senior Backend Developer. You will work on WIRE, a platform used by mining companies to run their operations. The job involves writing code in Python and Go. You will help move parts of the system from Python to Go. This is a full-time, permanent role.

What you will do
- Build and improve backend features using Python and Go.
- Write and update database changes carefully.
- Work on background tasks and fix issues when the system is busy.
- Write and improve SQL queries for better performance.
- Design and maintain APIs that work well with existing systems.
- Help move parts of the system from Python to Go.
- Fix problems in the live system quickly and find the root cause.
- Write tests for your code to make sure it works well.
- Review other developers’ code to keep the system easy to maintain.
- Spot and fix technical problems before they become big issues.
- Write clear documents about how the system works.
- Help junior and mid-level developers learn and grow.
- Work with product, testing, and operations teams to understand needs.
- Suggest ways to make the development process better.

What you need
- At least 6 years of experience as a backend developer.
- Strong skills in Python, especially with Flask or similar tools.
- Experience with Go or the ability to learn it quickly.
- Good knowledge of databases and SQL.
- Experience with background tasks and message queues like Celery or RabbitMQ.
- Comfortable using Docker for development.
- Experience designing and improving APIs.
- Good with Git and code reviews.

Nice to have
- Experience with Go in a live system.
- Worked with large amounts of data or time-based data.
- Used tools like pandas for data work.
- Experience with systems that serve many customers at once.
- Knowledge of single sign-on or security tools.
- Experience improving database performance.
- Basic knowledge of frontend tools like Angular.
