What the job is The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation is looking for 6 HIV Testing and Research Counsellors to work in Cape Town, Western Cape. This is a contract job that ends on 31 December 2027. You will work in clinics, communities, and mobile health units in areas like Klipfontein, Mitchells Plain, Du Noon, Kraaifontein, and Langa. The job is part of a programme that helps introduce new HIV prevention methods and supports sexual and reproductive health services.
What you will do - Provide HIV counselling and testing to clients following national guidelines. - Teach clients about HIV prevention, including pills and injections to prevent HIV. - Do rapid HIV and pregnancy tests and help clients understand the results. - Help recruit and screen people for the programme and get their consent. - Work with community teams to encourage people to join the programme. - Give one-on-one and group education on HIV, treatment, and prevention. - Follow up with clients to make sure they keep their appointments. - Track and record client information accurately using computers and mobile apps. - Write reports on how many people join and stay in the programme. - Help with community outreach and surveys. - Keep client information private and follow all rules about ethics and data protection. - Work with a team in clinics, communities, and mobile units. - Help meet programme goals by keeping clients engaged.

What you need - Matric certificate. - Certificate in HIV Counselling and Testing. - Certificate in rapid finger-prick testing. - Good Clinical Practice certification. - 1 to 2 years of experience in research, clinics, or community health. - Knowledge of HIV prevention, including PrEP. - Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, TB, and STIs. - Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and data systems). - Good communication and people skills. - Speak English, Afrikaans, or isiXhosa. - Can work in a fast-paced environment with targets. - Good at organising and paying attention to details. - Can keep information private. - Focused on helping clients.
