What the job is

This is a Collections Manager position at MVIA, a company based in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, Western Cape. The role involves leading the collections team and ensuring that all debt recovery activities are done fairly, efficiently, and in line with the law.

What you will do

You will set and meet monthly, quarterly, and annual targets for recovering money, managing cash flow, and reducing overdue payments. You will lead, train, and motivate a team of collections agents, assigning them tasks and checking their work to make sure they are productive. You will also handle hiring, training, and managing the team’s performance, including setting goals and addressing any issues. Additionally, you will analyze data to spot trends, risks, and opportunities, and then create plans based on these insights. You will prepare reports for senior management, oversee the dialer system and campaigns, and ensure all collections follow laws like the National Credit Act and Consumer Protection Act. You will also develop policies, improve processes, and handle complaints or disputes.

What you need

You must have a Matric certificate and a relevant tertiary qualification in Credit Management, Business Management, or a similar field. A degree or postgraduate qualification is a plus. You need at least 5 to 7 years of experience in collections or credit management, with at least 3 years in a management role. You should have experience setting and meeting collections targets, managing teams, and using collections systems and tools like Excel or BI reporting. You must also understand South African laws related to collections, debt, and consumer protection, as well as labor laws.
