What the job is

This is a Sous Chef position at Sun International in Cape Town. You will be responsible for managing the daily food production and kitchen team in a specific restaurant or outlet. The goal is to ensure high-quality food, efficient operations, and good revenue by controlling costs and maintaining company standards.

What you will do

You will work with the Executive Sous Chef to plan and implement kitchen goals, manage staff schedules, and ensure food quality during service. You will handle shift briefings, check food preparation, and resolve any issues during service. You will also monitor kitchen cleanliness, manage stock and equipment, and track food costs and budgets. Additionally, you will train and manage staff, handle customer complaints, and ensure a positive dining experience for guests.

What you need

You need a 3-year Culinary Diploma or equivalent qualification. At least 5-6 years of experience in a hotel or restaurant kitchen is required, with at least 2 years as a Chef de Partie. Membership with the South African Chefs Association is a plus. You must be able to work shifts, move around the kitchen, and handle physical tasks. Strong leadership, culinary knowledge, and computer skills are essential.
