What the job is

The University of the Free State is hiring a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. This is a permanent position based on the Bloemfontein Campus in the Free State. The role is part of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and focuses on teaching, research, and academic leadership in urban and regional planning.

What you will do

You will initiate and conduct high-quality research in Urban and Regional Planning and provide research leadership and mentorship to colleagues and postgraduate students. You will teach and assess postgraduate students, develop learning materials, and provide study leadership at the postgraduate level. Additionally, you will participate in community engagement initiatives, recruit and supervise postgraduate students, and pursue opportunities for external funding and collaborative research projects. You will also perform academic and administrative duties at the departmental, faculty, and university levels.

What you need

You must have a PhD in Human Settlements, Urban and Regional Planning, or a closely related field. You need at least 5-10 publications in internationally recognized journals or relevant industry experience. You should have proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship, an NRF rating or potential for obtaining one, and experience supervising graduated master’s degree students. A proven research record in peer-reviewed national and international accredited scientific journals is also required.
