We are looking for a Senior Forwarding Controller to join our team at Rohlig-Grindrod in Sandton, Gauteng. This role is based in our Johannesburg Sea Freight branch, where you will play a key part in managing and coordinating the movement of imported goods. Your expertise will help ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction in the logistics and supply chain industry.

As a Senior Forwarding Controller, your main tasks will include planning and managing the movement of freight for import cargo. You will calculate freight costs and prepare service estimates for clients, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. You will also coordinate the entire process of moving goods through the international transport chain, from the time the cargo arrives until it reaches its final destination.

You will handle all the necessary paperwork, including commercial documents, carrier and depot conditions, and statutory requirements. This includes managing files, ensuring compliance with the company’s quality management system, and handling any additional tasks as needed. Your role will also involve working with clients to understand their specific freight needs, such as special handling requirements for certain products.

To qualify for this position, you must have completed Matric and hold a 3-year qualification related to freight forwarding at NQF Level 3 or 4, or an equivalent certification. You should have at least 3 years of experience in the clearing and forwarding industry, specifically in an import role, where you worked in a clerical or similar capacity.

You need to have a strong understanding of INCOTERMS (international trade terms), commercial documents, and the rules governing import and export in South Africa. Knowledge of containerization practices, geography, and basic international trade principles is also important. You should be comfortable working with computer systems like Microsoft Word, Excel, and Lotus, and have good problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Attention to detail, the ability to handle pressure, and strong communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential. You should be able to work well with others, contribute to team success, and adapt to changing situations. Customer service skills are a plus, as you will interact with clients and internal teams regularly.
