What the job is

Fraser Alexander Latin America, a company specializing in tailings management and operations, is hiring a Plant Operator to work at the Quillayes Tailings Dam in Salamanca, specifically at Minera Los Pelambres. This is a temporary position with a rotating shift schedule of 7 days on and 7 days off, alternating between day and night shifts.

What you will do

You will operate equipment and systems related to tailings repulping and transportation, including VSP/Booster pumps, discharge lines, and auxiliary equipment. Your tasks will include starting and stopping equipment, connecting and disconnecting tailings and water pipelines, and inspecting equipment for leaks or wear. You will also support maintenance activities, perform operational checks, take pulp samples, and maintain safety and operational records. Additionally, you will participate in emergency drills and training while strictly following all safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.

What you need

You must have a technical degree in Mechanics or Electrical from a recognized institution in Chile. You need at least 3 years of experience working in tailings processing plants and knowledge of VSP/Booster pump systems and tailings transport lines. Experience with connecting and disconnecting pipelines and basic mechanical and electrical knowledge is required. A valid Class B driver’s license is also necessary. Preferred qualifications include a valid AIC MLP certification, defensive driving skills, an up-to-date psychotechnical exam, and internal plant operation accreditation.
