What the job is

This is a full-time position for an Operations and Maintenance Manager at Eskom, a major electricity and energy company in South Africa. The job is based at the Vanderkloof Power Station in the Northern Cape. You will be responsible for managing the operations and maintenance of hydro power stations, gas turbines, and wind stations within the Peaking Operating Unit.

What you will do

You will manage the priorities for maintenance and daily operations of the power stations. You will oversee and lead a team of employees, ensuring they perform their tasks effectively. You will make sure that all plant maintenance is carried out correctly and on time. You will handle the financial management for the operations under your control. You will direct investigations into any plant-related incidents or accidents. You will also assess the feasibility of technical plans and proposals. Additionally, you will implement and manage the safety risk management program to ensure a safe working environment.

What you need

You must have a Bachelor’s Degree, B Tech, Advanced Diploma, or National Higher Diploma in Engineering with at least 360 credits. You need at least 5 years of experience in a technical environment. Important skills include coordination, negotiation, financial management, problem-solving, and computer literacy. You should also have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of relevant laws, policies, procedures, and plant technology is required. Leadership qualities such as management, coaching, and mentoring are essential. Personal traits like honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness are also important.
