What the job is: This job is for an Onsite Desktop Support Engineer based in Sandton, Gauteng. First Technology Pty Ltd is looking for someone with strong technical skills to handle desktop and IT support tasks on-site. You will be the main point of contact for IT issues, troubleshooting, and coordinating support for users and devices in the office.

What you will do: You will be responsible for providing technical support for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Office 365 on desktops and laptops. This includes troubleshooting hardware issues, installing and configuring software, and managing user accounts in Microsoft Active Directory. You will also assist with email security using Mimecast and antivirus solutions.

You will act as a technical expert to help lower-level engineers solve problems they can’t fix. This includes writing clear instructions and guides for common tasks. You will work with a ticketing system to track and resolve IT issues within set time limits. You will also help managers with technical questions when needed and may need to work extra hours if required.

On-site, you will handle all end-user and device support during business hours, both in person and remotely using tools like N-able RMM. This includes fixing printers, managing software updates, and ensuring devices are secure and compliant. You will also coordinate with vendors for repairs, deliveries, and IT-related services. Additionally, you will maintain records of all devices, track their health, and assist with small IT projects like system upgrades or user relocations.

What you need: You must have Matric (Grade 12) and certifications like CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+. Experience with Microsoft 365 and desktop support is essential. A degree or diploma in Computer Science or IT is helpful but not required. You should have at least 5 years of experience in a similar technical role, with strong communication skills both in writing and speaking.

You will need to work well independently, follow best practices for email communication, and be comfortable working in a busy environment with multiple clients. Staying updated on new technologies and keeping your certifications current is also important.
