What the job is: This job is for a Mine Planner with experience in Chrome mining. A mining company based in Rustenburg, North West, is looking for someone to lead their mine planning team. The role involves planning how ore is extracted safely and efficiently while following all mining laws and standards.

What you will do: You will create and update long-term plans for the mine, including the Life-of-Mine (LOM) plan, yearly budgets, and daily mining schedules. Your work will include designing pits, ramps, haul roads, waste dumps, and ore stockpiles to ensure the mine operates smoothly. You will also help prepare reports for ore reserves and assess when the mine should switch from open-pit to underground mining if needed.

You will plan how much ore to extract, its quality (grade), and how to manage waste rock. Your job includes developing strategies to control ore quality and blending to meet product standards. You will also optimize how trucks and other mining equipment are used and prepare layouts for design compliance. Additionally, you will work with geological, survey, and geotechnical teams to ensure the mine plans match the actual results.

What you need: You must have at least Matric (Grade 12) and a degree in Mining Engineering. Having a Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency and a Blasting Certificate is a plus. You need 15 to 20 years of experience in mining, with at least 6 to 10 years specifically in Chrome open-pit mine planning. Experience with mine planning software like Surpac, Datamine, Vulcan, Deswik, Minescape, Whittle, MineSched, or AutoCAD is required.

You should also know the laws and regulations like SAMREC, MPRDA, MHSA, and DMRE. A valid driver’s license is necessary for this role.
