This role is for a Lead AI Engineer who will deliver major AI projects, work closely with the head of AI, and ensure high-quality code and systems are built. The position is based in Sandton, Johannesburg with hybrid work options. Responsibilities include leading AI projects (voice agents, speech/language model pipelines, post-call intelligence systems), designing AI prompts, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with operations teams. Requirements include 7+ years of software engineering experience, 3+ years in AI deployment, strong Python skills, expertise in voice/conversational AI, speech processing, and Microsoft Azure. Experience with AI coding tools (Cursor/Claude) and CI/CD is preferred. The role offers a permanent position with a salary up to R1.4M/year, negotiable based on experience.
