What the job is

This is a full-time position for a Kitchen Steward at Sun International in Cape Town. The role involves keeping the kitchen areas clean, organized, and well-maintained according to the company’s high standards.

What you will do

You will clean and maintain all food and beverage equipment, ensuring it is in good working order. You will check chemical levels and inventory for cleaning supplies, set up workstations, and store crockery and hollowware correctly. Recording any breakages and completing daily dishwasher maintenance will also be part of your tasks. Additionally, you will clean soiled equipment, dispose of broken items properly, remove trash, and sanitize workstations. You must follow all health, safety, and hygiene regulations, use equipment safely, and report any issues. You will also interact with guests, provide professional service, handle complaints, and educate customers about facilities, products, and promotions.

What you need

You must have a Grade 12 certificate (Matric). Previous experience in a kitchen environment is an advantage but not required. You should be able to work shifts, move equipment physically, and perform similar tasks in different outlets if needed. Key skills include teamwork, customer service, using kitchen equipment, following instructions, and performing physical tasks like cleaning and tidying. You must also be able to handle heavy or dangerous items safely.
