What the job is

This is a full-time position for an ICU Unit Manager at Melomed Private Hospitals SA, located in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. The role involves leading the Intensive Care Unit team to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient operations.

What you will do

You will provide strong patient care with a focus on reducing risks and ensuring safety. You will supervise and train junior staff and students, conduct teaching rounds, and manage the unit according to hospital policies. Your duties include making critical clinical decisions, keeping accurate records, and managing stock. You will also liaise between doctors, patients, and staff, and work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours when needed. Additionally, you will handle administrative tasks, solve problems, and work well in a team or independently.

What you need

You must be a registered nurse with the South African Nursing Council and have a post-basic diploma or equivalent in Critical Care. You need at least 5 years of experience in ICU, preferably with experience as a Shift Leader or Deputy Unit Manager. Experience in Cardiothoracic care is a plus. Strong leadership, communication, and computer skills (including MS Office and Kronos System) are required. You should also be detail-oriented, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement.
