Dis-Chem Pharmacies at Savannah Mall in Polokwane is looking for a Dispensary Support Assistant to join their team. This is a fixed-term job designed to help learners complete their basic pharmacist assistant course. Once you qualify as a basic pharmacist assistant, you may be offered permanent employment. The role is based in Polokwane, Limpopo, at the Savannah Mall store.

As a Dispensary Support Assistant, you will assist pharmacists with daily tasks while learning the skills needed to become a registered pharmacist assistant. Your main responsibilities will include helping customers, managing stock, and ensuring the dispensary runs smoothly. You will sell medicines under supervision, assist with preparing and packing medicines, and keep the dispensary clean and organized. You will also help with checking stock levels, following up on patient scripts, and answering phone calls from customers. Additionally, you will learn how to interpret prescriptions correctly, understand common dosages, and recognize potential drug interactions. You will assist with authorizing chronic, HIV, and oncology medications for insurance schemes and report any stock issues to the dispensary manager.

To apply for this job, you must have completed Matric (Grade 12) with Pure Mathematics at least 50%, Life Science or Physical Science, and an overall average of at least 50%. You must also pass a proficiency test that allows you to register with the Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant. Good communication skills in English and another language are essential, as are strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work under pressure. Computer skills and basic numerical abilities are also required. Experience in retail or Dis-Chem’s front shop is a plus but not mandatory. You must be a South African citizen with a clean criminal record, a valid Medical Examination (MIE), and a good credit record.

This is a contract position with a market-related salary. Once you complete your training and qualify as a basic pharmacist assistant, you may be offered permanent employment.
