What the job is

This is a Cashier position at Brights Hardware in Bellville, Western Cape. The role is part of the Frontline Department and is a permanent job. The main goal is to provide excellent customer service while handling sales transactions accurately and efficiently to help the business grow.

What you will do

You will greet customers as they enter the store. You will follow the cash register procedures, including checking the cash received from customers and processing EFT payments. You will ring up sales accurately on the register and pack purchased items into shopping bags. You will hand over cash drops to your supervisor for security reasons and perform daily cash-ups. You will also watch for suspicious-looking customers, be aware of promotional products, issue gift cards, check reward cards, and cash in points. Additionally, you will keep your work area clean, participate in stock takes, and complete any other tasks assigned by your supervisor.

What you need

You must have a Matric certificate or equivalent qualification. You need at least 6 months of experience in a similar role. A clear credit score is required, along with good customer service and interpersonal skills. You should be alert and vigilant, able to handle pressure, and have strong numerical skills. The ability to work in a team or independently with minimal supervision is important. You must also have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask. Flexibility to work holidays and varying hours is necessary.
