What the job is

This is a Business Development Manager role based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The job focuses on growing export sales for Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and commodities in international markets. You will work on-site and be responsible for building strong business relationships and turning market insights into profitable deals.

What you will do

You will set annual profit targets and work hard to meet or exceed them. You will find new business opportunities in target markets and turn them into profitable deals. You will negotiate and close trade agreements using professional sales techniques. You will maintain strong client relationships and ensure high service levels. You will also manage trade risks, track market trends, and ensure compliance with regulations in different countries. Additionally, you will use your professional network to uncover new opportunities and support market growth.

What you need

You need solid experience in export trade and business development, especially in FMCG or commodities. Experience working with African or Indian Ocean Island markets is a strong advantage. A good understanding of South African FMCG products and perishable goods is beneficial. You must have strong numerical and financial skills, knowledge of Incoterms, and experience attending international trade shows. A Matric certificate plus a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or a related field is required. You should be commercially minded, detail-oriented, and able to make decisions based on data and market conditions.

What you will get

The salary ranges from R50,000 to R60,000 per month, depending on experience. You will also earn performance-based commission tied to achieving your sales targets. The role is on-site in Durban, with regular international travel to meet clients, suppliers, and partners. A valid passport and driver’s license are required for this position.
