What the job is

Helderberg Village in Somerset West is looking for an experienced Building Compliance Officer to join their estate management team. This is a hands-on technical role for someone with strong experience in residential construction and inspections. The position is based in Somerset West, Western Cape, and involves working closely with residents, contractors, and professionals in the built environment.

What you will do

You will review building and alteration applications and plans to ensure they meet standards. You will inspect construction work to check it matches approved plans and village requirements. You will identify any unauthorized work or non-compliance issues. You will manage contractor registration and building site requirements. You will keep accurate records of all building and alteration activities. You will also conduct compliance inspections for properties being sold and communicate with residents, contractors, and other professionals.

What you need

You need a relevant three-year qualification in the built environment, preferably at NQF level 6 or higher. You must have at least 5 years of practical experience in a similar role. You should have strong knowledge of national building regulations and SANS 10400 standards. Good plan-reading, inspection, report-writing, and administrative skills are essential. A valid Code B driver’s license is required. Registration as a SACPCMP building inspector, experience with municipal or residential estates, and knowledge of City of Cape Town systems or sectional titles will be an advantage.

What you will get

The salary offered is between R450,000 and R560,000 per year, negotiable and inclusive of benefits. The job includes a provident fund benefit. This is a permanent, full-time position with occasional travel required. You will need your own transport for the role.
