What the job is: This is a 3-month contract position for an Assistant Manager at Signature Cosmetics in Parow Shopping Centre, Western Cape. The role involves supporting the Store Supervisor in running the store smoothly, handling daily tasks, and ensuring customers have a great shopping experience. You’ll work closely with the team to meet sales targets, manage stock, and keep the store looking its best.

What you will do: You will help create a friendly and welcoming environment for customers by greeting them and offering personalized service. When needed, you may step in to do the Store Supervisor’s job, such as managing staff schedules or handling important tasks. You’ll also assist with stock checks, ensuring products are well-organized, and following the first-in-first-out (FIFO) rule to keep stock fresh.

Your responsibilities will include attending team meetings, walking around the store to check on standards, and helping with stock counts. You’ll need to keep the store clean, restock products, and ensure all displays and promotions are set up correctly. This includes setting up posters, shelf talkers, and other promotional materials to boost sales. You’ll also handle customer complaints, explain promotions, and encourage customers to join the loyalty program.

You’ll assist with training new staff, reporting any issues with stock or procedures, and ensuring all store policies—like cash handling and sales processes—are followed. Additionally, you’ll help with special projects, like sidewalk sales or pop-up stores, and ensure the store meets all health and safety rules.

What you need: To apply, you must have a Matric (Grade 12) certificate or equivalent. While no prior experience is strictly required, having at least two years of work in retail or a related field will be helpful. Experience supervising a small team or working with beauty, skincare, or fragrance products is a plus. You should also be comfortable using computers, especially Microsoft Office (like Excel and emails), and have basic knowledge of Point of Sale (POS) systems.

You’ll need strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. A passion for retail, cosmetics, and customer service is important, as is a willingness to work flexible hours, including standing for long periods. You should be detail-oriented, able to prioritize tasks, and committed to helping the store succeed.
