What the job is

This is a job for an Assistant Catering Manager at Empact Group, based in Cape Town, Western Cape. The role is part of Empact Group Food Solutions and involves helping with food service operations in a busy kitchen environment. The position is a fixed-term contract and focuses on managing kitchen activities and ensuring high standards in food preparation and service.

What you will do

You will assist in managing the daily operations of the kitchen and food service areas. You will help implement the food production process and ensure it runs smoothly. You will also assist in controlling food and labor costs to stay within budget. Additionally, you will develop and plan menus, manage the kitchen team, and ensure compliance with HACCP standards. You will also support the strategic and day-to-day management of the catering operation.

What you need

You must have a relevant qualification in food and beverage services or culinary arts. You need at least 3 years of experience in kitchen or catering management. Experience working within budget guidelines and in high-volume food service operations is highly preferred. You should have strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards, as well as South African food industry laws. Good customer service, management, and communication skills are essential, along with computer literacy and the ability to balance budgets.
