What the job is:
This job is for an Area Marketer at Smollan, a company in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry. You will be based in Bloemfontein, Free State, and will work on a contract basis. Your role will focus on managing sales, customer relationships, and product visibility in stores to ensure Smollan’s products perform well in the market.

What you will do:
You will be responsible for making sure Smollan’s products are displayed properly in stores. This includes setting up point-of-purchase materials exactly as the company requires and keeping track of sales reports from each store. You will also manage sales performance by monitoring scorecards and giving both formal and informal feedback to teams to help them improve.

Another key part of the job is keeping store shelves in good condition. This means using the correct store files, setting up displays as instructed, ensuring Smollan’s products take up the right amount of shelf space compared to competitors, and making sure stores never run out of stock. You will also handle administrative tasks like keeping personal records up to date through feedback platforms (like IVR, Grapevine, or Field Comms), updating stocking files accurately, and meeting all deadlines.

Customer service is important in this role. You will collect feedback from customers and solve any problems they report within the agreed timeframe. Finally, you will manage your own performance by participating in performance appraisals, 360-degree reviews, and both formal and informal feedback sessions to keep improving.

What you need:
While there is no strict requirement for a diploma in sales or marketing, having one would be a big advantage. You should be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently. Strong communication skills are a must, as you will interact with store managers, customers, and your team regularly. Experience in sales, marketing, or retail would be helpful, but not always required if you can show you have the right skills and attitude.
