An exciting opportunity exists for a Unit Manager – Neonatal ICU (NICU), reporting to the Nursing Services Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and coordinating the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care in the NICU, aligned with clinical governance, operational standards, and strategic objectives.

      Key Responsibilities

      Quality and Clinical Care Leadership:

      • Evaluate and monitor nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes to support continuous improvement.
      • Ensure delivery of safe, cost-effective, and quality care in line with clinical governance frameworks.
      • Uphold infection prevention principles and compliance with international best practices.
      • Act as a clinical resource and mentor, driving positive patient outcomes through evidence-based practice.
      • Foster an environment conducive to professional learning, socialisation, and growth for staff and students.

      Operational Excellence:

      • Implement and drive unit-specific quality improvement initiatives.
      • Conduct regular quality care rounds and audits; address concerns and patient complaints proactively.
      • Identify and mitigate clinical and safety risks through corrective and preventative actions.
      • Ensure staff competency in equipment use, and coordinate with relevant departments to maintain a safe care environment.
      • Promote unit-specific best practices and participate in hospital-wide marketing and awareness campaigns.

      Stakeholder Relationship Management:

      • Maintain effective communication with patients and families regarding care processes.
      • Build and sustain professional working relationships with doctors and other stakeholders through clear communication and a shared commitment to quality care.
      • Promote customer satisfaction within the unit through responsiveness and service excellence.

      Financial and Resource Management:

      • Monitor and manage the unit’s financial performance including budgets, cost of sales, and resource utilisation.
      • Support effective people management practices including recruitment, training, development, and performance management.
      • Maintain compliance with labour legislation and hospital operational standards.

      Minimum Requirements

      • Degree or Diploma in General Nursing
      • Post-basic qualification in Critical Care Nursing (Neonatal ICU focus preferred)
      • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
      • Minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience in ICU, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role
      • Experience in private healthcare will be advantageous
      • Sound knowledge of financial and operational management principles
      • Proficient in MS Office and healthcare information systems
