The incumbent will report to the corporate IT manager.
Job purpose:
The systems administrator is a member of the IT department primarily responsible for on-site IT infrastructure used for on-air broadcast and corporate systems. This role ensures that IT hardware and software are maintained and functional twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintenance and administration of IT broadcasting systems (AVID) at Newzroom Afrika.
- Installation, configuration, support, and maintenance of servers, PCs, laptops, and mobile devices.
- Active Directory administration, including creating, updating, and managing user network profiles and devices.
- Support and maintenance of Google Workspace.
- Desktop support for PC and Mac operating systems, including setup, networking, printers, and software installations.
- Security patch management, such as installing antivirus software and OS updates.
- Firewall management.
- PABX and VoIP phone management.
- Maintaining company backups.
- Networking administration and management.
- Completing handover reports at the end of shifts.
- Logging calls and making enquiries with suppliers when required.
Skills and competencies:
- A qualification in computer studies: MCSE, computer science diploma in networking and cybersecurity, or CCNA.
- At least five years of experience administering Microsoft systems.
- Knowledge of networking technologies and infrastructure, such as TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS.
- Knowledge of Microsoft products, including operating systems and tools like WSUS, Active Directory, and SQL.
- Familiarity with Linux, OSX, and VMware.
- Knowledge of Cisco switches.
- Experience in broadcasting is beneficial.
- Friendly, dedicated, and a team player.
- Detail-oriented.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Approachable and able to collaborate effectively with others.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Capable of logging and escalating calls to vendors when necessary and following up on logged calls.
- Ability to investigate and recommend enhancements to optimise service delivery.
- Commitment to confidentiality regarding processed and stored information.
- Mandatory own transport.
- Ability to work shifts and dedicate extra effort and time when needed.
