Level of Authority: No delegated authority

Hire Resolve’s Client is seeking to hire a Senior Bookkeeper to join their team in Bellville. The role is to manage and maintain accurate accounting records, support financial reporting functions, and ensure compliance with internal processes and external regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement and Supplier Management

  • Process supplier invoices, credit notes, and payments
  • Ensure adherence to internal procurement policies and levels of authority
  • Maintain relationships with supplier finance departments and follow up on outstanding issues
  • File and manage supporting documentation

2. General Accounting and Reconciliations

  • Prepare cashbooks and bank reconciliations
  • Perform supplier account reconciliations
  • Maintain and update fixed asset registers (including tagging and physical verification)
  • Process routine journal entries
  • Compile reconciliation schedules for routine account balances
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of source documents in accounting records
  • Support intercompany transaction reconciliations and confirmations

3. Management Reporting Support

  • Assist with management reporting and budget preparation when required

4. Sales Administration

  • Process customer invoices, credit notes, statements, and deposits
  • Support debt collection efforts
  • Maintain accurate sales records

5. Treasury and Financial Planning

  • Provide daily reports on cash and bank balances
  • Plan and coordinate payment runs
  • Assist with weekly and long-term cash flow planning

6. Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and submit VAT, EMP, and income tax returns (for simpler entities)

7. Year-End and Audit Support

  • Assist in gathering and preparing audit-related documentation
  • Provide support during financial year-end processes

8. Special Projects

  • Provide assistance on ad hoc financial projects and process improvements

9. Strategic and General Participation

  • Participate in internal meetings and discussions as required
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders
  • Apply policy and strategic guidelines where relevant
  • Collaborate with peers and support other duties as needed

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Grade 12 with Accounting
  • Certificate or Diploma in Bookkeeping/Accounting or equivalent qualification

Experience:

  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in bookkeeping or accounting
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience at Bookkeeper II level or equivalent

Key Competencies

Knowledge:

  • Accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency in Sage X3 and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
