Safety and Environment Officer
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Safety and Environment Officer from an Automotive Manufacturing background. To ensure the implementation and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards in compliance with South African legislation and international automotive manufacturing practices.

LOCATION:
Tongaat – Durban
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections across the facility
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act 85 of 1993)
- Investigate incidents and near-misses, and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Facilitate safety training, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills. Maintain and update safety documentation, including SOPs, MSDS, and risk registers
- Monitor and manage environmental aspects such as waste, emissions, and resource usage
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation (e.g., NEMA, Air Quality Act)
- Maintain ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System documentation
- Coordinate environmental impact assessments and sustainability initiatives
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and prepare reports for environmental audits
Requirements
- Matric
- National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in HSE roles within manufacturing – Automotive sector
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards
- NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, or equivalent certification is advantageous
- Proficient in MS Office and HSE management systems
