Quantity Surveyor(Kendal)
Job Description
PURPOSE OF ROLE
The Quantity Surveyor provides support to the projects function through measurement, verification, and certification of materials, labour, and other cost components related to designs and drawings as applicable on tenders and projects. This role is essential for contractual administration and financial management cost control.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Contractual Administration & Financial Management
- Support the Project Management team with controlling cost aspects of contracts
- Evaluate and agree new bill items and rates with subcontractors
- Perform measurements and valuations of subcontract works
- Prepare Bills and Schedules of Quantities
- Maintain Material take-offs (MTOs) and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for tenders and projects
- Measure and verify quantities of completed work against approved drawings
- Assist in valuations and prepare monthly payment applications to clients
- Value completed work and assessed applications for payment
- Prepare estimates for client variation orders and requests for quotation
- Measure and value variations for client submission
- Ensure variation costs are correctly allocated in project management systems
- Prepare final accounts for completed subcontracts and clients
Process Compliance & Departmental Support
- Assist in developing standardized documentation and templates for project execution
- Interface with Finance department to generate project invoices
- Help resolve contractor payment queries
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate time logging and approval in company systems
- Contribute to process improvements and updates to align with industry standards
Strategic Support
- Assist with tender generation as required for project proposals
- Provide project development leads when available
- Apply company strategies in daily operations
- Support the Project Manager and Functional Area Manager in achieving project goals
QUALIFICATION
- Degree/diploma in Quantity Surveying
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3-5 years post-qualification practical experience in relevant field
- Experience in industrial engineering is beneficial
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS COMPETENCIES
Knowledge
- Strong mathematical acumen
- High ability to accurately read, analyse, and interpret construction/engineering drawings and blueprints
- Good understanding of basic financial control pertaining to cost spending
- Sound knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook
Skills
- Excellent accounting and financial expertise relating to engineering and construction projects
- Strong budgeting and forecasting abilities
- Proficient in generating financial management reports for project managers
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, vlookups, sumifs, subtotals, etc.)
- Working knowledge of construction estimating software
- Clear written and oral communication with superiors, peers, subordinates, and contractors/clients
- Strong analytical abilities
- High planning and organizational capability
- Technical competence in quantity surveying methodologies
