Plant Metallurgist – Bellville, Cape TownA leading engineering environment seeks a Plant Metallurgist with initiative and drive, able to work under pressure while providing metallurgical support for boiler and pressure vessel environments.Minimum Requirements:BSc or BEng in Metallurgical Engineering, or BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering plus Master’s in Metallurgical Engineering.At least 5 years’ experience working with boilers and industrial plants.Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally and internationally as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advise on material selection and procurement for boilers and pressure vessels.
• Review and apply national and international standards on design, manufacture, and materials.
• Perform metallurgical inspections, including hardness testing, material replication, and failure analyses.
• Support quality control procedures for manufacturing and heat treatment processes.
• Provide metallurgical support to various departments and deliver technical training when required.
• Maintain supplier relationships and attend inspections, exhibitions, and technical meetings.

Skills & Knowledge:

• Industrial boiler design (shell and tube, watertube).
• Combustion processes and heat distribution.
• Boiler water treatment and circulation.
• Pressure vessel manufacturing and life assessment.
• Corrosion mechanisms, metallurgy of alloy steels.
• Failure mechanics and microstructural evaluations.
• Clear and professional communication and reporting skills.
