IT Technician – Midrand
Job Description
Hire resolve’s client is looking for an IT Technician who is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining laptops for customers. This includes hardware repairs, software troubleshooting, system upgrades, and customer consultations. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Responsibilities
1. Diagnostic and Repair
- Hardware Diagnostics: Identify issues in laptop hardware, including motherboards, CPUs, RAM, SSD/HDDs, displays, and power supplies.
- Software Troubleshooting: Resolve software-related problems such as boot failures, system errors, and malware infections.
- Component Replacement: Perform repairs such as screen replacements, battery replacements, keyboard repairs, and fan cleanings.
- Upgrades: Install and configure new components like RAM, SSDs, or GPUs for improved performance.
- Testing and Validation: Verify that all repairs and installations function correctly before returning devices to customers.
2. Customer Support
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand the problem and explain solutions.
- Provide estimates for repair costs and timelines.
- Deliver post-repair explanations and recommendations for system maintenance.
3. Inventory and Tool Management
- Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts and tools.
- Notify management when inventory is low or tools require replacement.
4. Documentation
- Keep detailed records of repairs, including diagnostics performed, parts replaced, and time spent.
- Update ticketing systems with repair statuses and customer interactions.
5. Quality Assurance
- Ensure repairs are conducted to the highest standards and meet safety requirements.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest repair techniques, hardware trends, and security updates.
Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in laptop repair, both hardware and software.
- Diagnostic Tools: Ability to use diagnostic tools and software like multimeters, POST cards, or specialized utilities.
- Problem-Solving: Logical approach to troubleshooting and identifying root causes.
- Communication: Clear communication skills for customer interaction and team collaboration.
- Time Management: Efficient in handling multiple repair tasks simultaneously.
- Experience with Apple and PC systems.
- Familiarity with Linux, Windows, and MacOS troubleshooting.
- Networking knowledge, including Wi-Fi and Ethernet diagnostics.
- Degree/Diploma in Computer Science, IT, or related fields (preferred).
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), or similar.
- At least 2 years of experience in IT repair roles.
