Intermediate/Senior Data Scientist

A registered financial service provider with a dedicated team of diverse thinkers and innovators who believe in leading through technology is seeking a skilled intermediate or senior data scientist. In this role, you will design, prototype, and build next-generation analytic engines and services, applying expertise in machine learning, data mining, and information retrieval within a new environment.

Job requirements

• Interpret business requirements and translate them into analytical reporting solutions.
• Develop actuarial or statistical models to support data-driven decision-making.
• Identify suitable models or algorithms to mine large datasets and gain insights into member behaviour.
• Apply advanced analytics and machine learning to detect fraudulent activity.
• Analyse key trends and interact with business teams to assess impacts, providing solutions or actions to leverage identified trends.
• Demonstrate a solid understanding of relational databases and data flows between systems.
• Build dashboards, reports, and data visualisations.

Qualification and experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or similar.
• Experience: Over five years’ experience in a data science role.
• Skills:
  • Machine learning experience across diverse projects.
  • End-to-end project involvement history.
  • Familiarity with data cubes is beneficial.
  • Experience with AWS is an advantage.
  • Proficient in Python, R, SQL, SAS, and Power BI.

Position details

Reference number for this role is NG59452. It is a permanent position based in Johannesburg, offering a cost-to-company package of up to R1 million per annum, negotiable based on experience and ability.
