Import & Export Operations Specialist
Job Description
RPO’s client is actively seeking a skilled Import & Export Operations Specialist to join their team in Johannesburg, Gauteng. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to oversee and drive operations within the supply chain, working closely with traders and reporting into the Operations Manager. If you have experience in import/export logistics, inventory management, and a passion for efficient operations, we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of trading contracts, acting as the main contact between suppliers and customers, managing import/export/distribution contracts from inception to completion, and reconciliation.
- Receive customer orders, place orders with suppliers, establish Letters of Credit (LCs), apply for Forward Exchange Contract (FEC) bookings, and more.
- Oversee shipments, process shipping documents, handle clearing instructions, arrange insurance, inspections, and other necessary tasks.
- Manage the receipting of cargo in the warehouse and maintain customer inventory levels.
- Handle deliveries to customers, collect Proof of Deliveries (PODs), and issue invoices.
- Reconcile contracts quarterly and report on contract profitability.
- Handle day-to-day queries and resolve any issues efficiently.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of professional experience in an import/export logistics and inventory management role.
- Well-experienced in INCOTERMs and logistics handling.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- B.Com degree in Supply Chain Management, or a similar qualification, is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate and influence at all levels.
- Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple responsibilities and both internal and external customers.
- Ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
- Experience in the films and packaging industry is an advantage.
- Experience in imports trading in Asia and Europe is beneficial.
- Experience managing Letters of Credit is beneficial.
