Group Commercial Manager
Job Description
The Group Commercial Manager – Mining will have overall responsibility for managing the commercial strategy and operations of the mining division of the company. They will be responsible for maximizing revenue and profitability through effective negotiation, pricing strategies, and contract management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the mining industry and a strong commercial acumen.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure supplier-facing documents, including quotations, proposals, and contracts, are developed in alignment with procurement projects and global bundling processes.
- Draft documents in line with local and global policies to minimize risk and ensure supplier document quality.
- Obtain internal approvals before submitting documents to suppliers.
- Audit documents per Commercial Department requirements.
- Register contracts in the Contract Management System in a timely manner.
- Manage a portfolio of global suppliers and address commercial matters promptly or escalate as needed.
- Support the implementation of price escalations while collaborating with other stakeholders.
- Participate in supplier negotiations.
- Train end users on compliance, risk mitigation, and system requirements.
- Manage trade compliance for South Africa.
- Ensure supplier agreements adhere to company governance processes.
- Compile and launch Group-related tender documents and adjudications with stakeholders.
- Identify Group opportunities for tenders and rebate contracts.
- Manage Tender Committee meeting minutes and documentation.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in B.Com Law, LLB Law, or B.Com Procurement/Supply Chain
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the mining industry
- 10 years of experience in Commercial, Legal, and/or Procurement
- Strong knowledge of managing commercial principles and contracts
- Ability to assess commercial risk and undertake new business
- Experience in leading negotiation strategy development and participating in negotiations
- Procurement tender and contractual experience
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is an advantage
- Ability to handle pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to travel as required
