Job Description


Hire Resolve’s client, a leading company in the shop fitting industry, is currently seeking a General Steel Manager to oversee operations in their Steel Division based in Benoni. This dynamic role requires a strategic leader to manage production activities, ensure quality control, and optimize resources. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in steel manufacturing, with a particular focus on retail/shop fitting steel.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate steel production activities, ensuring adherence to production and quality control standards.
  • Manage three warehouses across different provinces, including staff, product, and premises management.
  • Oversee weekly stock management across warehouses, ensuring accurate stock sheets.
  • Handle all purchase orders from a variety of suppliers and manage quoting to clients.
  • Predict steel requirements for upcoming projects, placing orders accordingly and meeting project timelines.
  • Manage steel extractions and deliveries to stores using detailed Excel spreadsheets.
  • Supervise clients’ stock management and coordinate deliveries as requested.
  • Ensure monthly sales journals and correct allocations.
  • Contribute to the creation of yearly sales budgets.
  • Oversee the management of powder coating and re-powdered steel, ensuring optimal discounts for clients.
  • Build and nurture client relationships, focusing on retention and new business opportunities.
  • Assist in managing transport logistics and supply chain operations for five companies.
  • Update supplier prices and conduct site visits as needed.
  • Conduct quarterly stocktakes and travel between provinces as required.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 qualification.
  • 3-5 years of General Management experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in steel manufacturing, particularly within the retail/shop fitting steel industry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Proactive planning and management abilities, with a focus on capacity and capability.
  • High level of organizational skills and commitment to quality management.
  • Ability to manage a diverse range of responsibilities across multiple locations.
  • Willingness to travel between provinces as necessary.
