EXECUTIVE SEARCH STATUS: Current 

POSITION: Engineering Manager  

NATURE OF BUSINESS: Mining Industry 

JOB LOCATION: Northeast of Pretoria, Gauteng 

REPORTS TO: General Manager 

 

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:  

As a technically grounded MHSA 2.13.1 appointee, the Engineering Manager plays a pivotal role in stabilising and optimising the mine’s engineering and plant operations. Operating in a lean but highly experienced environment, this role is central to ensuring plant availability, reliability, and day-to-day continuity. With a strong focus on uptime and operational efficiency, the Engineering Manager delivers engineering stability and drives ongoing performance across the plant. 

 

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:  

  • Minimum 10 years’ post-qualification experience in hard rock, open-pit mining, with an integrated processing plant, preferably involving complex ore bodies  

  • Proven ability to foster integrated operations and ensure consistent, high-quality production delivery 

  • Demonstrated success in managing engineering budgets exceeding R50 million, delivering cost-efficient outcomes without compromising performance  

  • Experienced in leading engineering teams of 40+, while driving cross-functional collaboration to achieve integrated operational outcomes  

  • Exposure to fluorspar or related commodities (phosphate, iron ore, manganese, chrome, base metals) advantageous  

  • An emotionally intelligent leader who drives change with calm authority and navigates legacy environments with maturity and sensitivity  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • An Engineer with Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent recognised qualification) 

  • Relevant NQF level 7 qualification 

  • Membership of relevant Professional Body and/ or Government Competency Certificate (GCC)  

  • Holder of the 2.13.1 appointment under Mine Health and Safety Act for the areas of responsibility as described
