Vacancy: Duty Manager

Location: Kempton Park, Johannesburg
CTC Salary: R 23 719 pm
Benefits: 16.5% Provident fund contribution (Employee)

Would be required to work overtime/shifts.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Supply Chain Management or equivalent (NQF Level 5)

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ working experience in the Airline or Freight industry

Environmental / Other Conditions

Primary Responsibilities & Duties

Main Purpose of the Job

To manage day-to-day cargo operations by allocating resources for freight movement within the Air Cargo network and maintaining on-time performance to ensure safe and efficient operations.


Customer and Supplier Service

  • Maintain a helpful, positive, and friendly attitude toward customers to enhance customer satisfaction

  • Keep clients informed about cargo status through regular communication with branches and divisions

  • Collaborate with departments to resolve client concerns and improve customer experience

Safety and Security

  • Conduct daily security briefings and submit records to senior management

  • Enforce compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and the company’s policies

  • Identify and report suspicious, undeclared, or misdeclared cargo per Dangerous Goods and security standards

  • Report suspicious acts to law enforcement as needed

  • Ensure staff display permits and wear PPE at all times

  • Promote hazard awareness and safe practices using signage and briefings

  • Ensure evacuation signage is visible and brief staff on evacuation protocols

  • Log all non-conformances in the IQSMS system before end of shift

  • Investigate incidents and implement preventative measures based on quality or management feedback

Equipment Serviceability Inspections

  • Conduct daily equipment inspections to ensure safe operational use

  • Ensure completion of warehouse equipment checklists and manage serviceable/unserviceable items

  • Liaise with service providers for quotations and coordinate purchase order processing with the Branch Administrator

  • Report unserviceable electronic equipment to superiors or IT department for immediate attention

People Management

  • Compile and submit monthly rosters in line with labour regulations

  • Manage leave applications and shift change communications

  • Schedule and monitor employee participation in regulated training

  • Ensure personnel are present and stationed as rostered

  • Track attendance and punctuality

  • Maintain discipline in line with the company’s disciplinary code

  • Delegate tasks effectively and manage operational staff performance per shift

Cargo and General Operations

  • Conduct daily staff briefings on operational expectations

  • Compile and share shift reports with senior leadership

  • Monitor cargo acceptance and ensure compliance with Security and Acceptance standards

  • Ensure correct processing of cargo (accurate weights, dimensions, and screening)

  • Handle cargo discrepancies efficiently and implement corrective actions

  • Check flight files for completeness and audit readiness

  • Investigate customer complaints and airline issues with full reporting

  • Manage smooth handover processes between shifts

  • Maintain cleanliness of the branch including the acceptance areas, warehouse, and surrounding premises
