Draughtsman

Main Purpose of the Job

To produce wiring diagrams, assembly diagrams for equipment, and layout drawings used in manufacturing and in installing and repairing electronic devices and components. To prepare layouts that show the details for a wide variety mechanical tools and devices. These layouts indicate dimensions, fastening methods, and other requirements needed for assembly and create production moulds. Ensure that all approvals and certification documentation is in place and correct to meet legislative and customer requirements.

Education, experience and competencies

• National Senior Certificate/Grade 12
• Drafting Technical Certification/Level 3 Diploma in Design and Draughting
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role
• Experience in Solid Works (Advantage)

Responsibilities:

• Obtain understanding of project scope and requirements.
• Develop layout designs, circuit diagrams, and mechanical assemblies based on project specifications.
• Liaise with internal customer and product experts on most appropriate product design (assist with building prototype).
• Develop preliminary sketches, layout, wiring, assembly and detailed drawings using Solid works.
• Prepare design variations where necessary.
• Collect and file all approvals documentation and drawings.
• Create and maintain manufacturing data packs.
• Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety codes.
• Assist production where necessary with work done using the laser machine and CNC router.
• Adhere to all company policies, rules and regulations in all activities.
• Work overtime as required in order to meet business needs.
• Update drawings that are due for review.
• Prepare detailed technical drawings and schematics for electrical and mechanical systems using SolidWorks
• Collaborate with engineers and designers to make necessary modifications and improvements.
• Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, revisions, and approvals.
• Conduct site visits to gather data, verify measurements, and ensure design feasibility.
• Work with teams to troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues.
• Stay updated with new technologies and advancements in electrical and mechanical drafting.
