We’re looking for a journalist who gets a thrill out of combing through data, unearthing hidden stories and transforming them into impactful visual journalism.

Lumière Labs is a new division within Media24 focused on using artificial intelligence and other technology to produce incredible journalism. We bring together editorial and engineering to create engaging content for our diverse audiences. Speed, innovation, learning and results drive us.

 

Who we’re looking for

We want a journalist who’ll use AI to craft beautiful content from relevant data sources. You are…

 

  • A savvy data decoder: skilled at analysing and interpreting data to extract meaningful insights. You think critically about data and can assess its quality and reliability.
  • An ace storyteller: you understand how to create a great piece of journalism and explain complex data to a non-technical audience. You know the fundamentals of ethical journalism, how to verify information and check with experts.
  • Visually driven: you craft stunning visual stories using data, ensuring it captivates, enlightens and engages.
  • Technically talented: you have experience with using data analysis tools (for example, Python, R or Excel) and visualisation software such as Tableau, Power BI or D3.js. You also have some coding experience (HTML, CSS, Javascript, for example).
  • Tenacious: you want to figure out what the data is telling you because you know it matters to the audiences you serve – and you keep checking to be sure you’re not missing anything.
  • Agile and a speed junkie: you can produce great work within tight deadlines, can cope with pressure and you can juggle multiple projects (in fact, you thrive on the thrill of tight deadlines!).
  • A collaborative spirit: you love working in a team, especially one that has diverse skills, talents and backgrounds. You’re also skilled at engaging with sources who can provide you with relevant data for your work.

 

What we need from you

  • At least two years’ experience working in a newsroom or an organisation that analyses data and transforms it visually for commercial use.
  • A journalism or media-related degree or diploma.

 

What we’d love you to also have…

  • An understanding of statistical concepts and methodologies.
  • A portfolio of data and visual storytelling pieces.
  • Database management experience.
