CMT seeks to employ a Community – based HAST Counsellor based in the Amathole District Municipality, Eastern Cape.
SUB-DISTRICT ec Ngqushwa Local Municipality, Health Facilities: Peddie Extension Clinic / SS Gida Gateway Clinic / Middledrift CHC

The role of the HAST Counsellor is to provide HIV Testing Services to clients in the community as part of the National Dept. of Health’s strategy to reach the 95-95-95 targets. HAST Counsellors will also have to report on all relevant information, using standardised templates and a Smart Phone app. HAST Counsellors will work as part of a team consisting or a clinical team leader, auxiliary social worker and an adherence coach.

As a HAST Counsellor, you will be expected to work closely with selected clinics and their feeder communities. This is a community-based position and you need to live in close proximity (walking distance or a short taxi ride) to the one of the facilities listed above.

Requirements

  • Grade 10 (Matric or higher educational qualification would be advantageous)
  • HTS Certificate including adherence counselling and rapid testing course (RT QII)
  • Advanced counselling certificate
  • Disclosure and paediatric consent certificate
  • Psychosocial counselling certificate
  • Couple counselling
  • Fluent in English and/or isiXhosa
  • Clear criminal record
  • Ability to travel extensively within the assigned cluster
  • Ability to manage data, paperwork requirements and use an Online app
  • Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Flexible and helpful attitude required at all times

 Advantageous

  •  Valid drivers licence with driving experience

Responsibilities

  •  Provide community based HIV/AIDS Counselling and Testing as well as TB screening services to clients as per the National HCT Guidelines and as stipulated by the National Department of Health.
  • Educate clients re: health and specific HIV/TB/PMTCT- related conditions
  • Promote the advantages of knowing your status
  • Explain coping mechanisms and treatment options
  • Advise on lifestyle adaptation, good nutrition
  • Provide adherence counselling and assist with identifying treatment support
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • Do TB symptom screening (4 questions) on all clients and refer if positive
  • Link positive clients to the THC Community Nurse Clinician for ART initiation services
  • Other duties may be assigned.
