The Manager of Aircraft Maintenance is responsible to the GMMRO for the effective management of maintenance operations, ensuring that aircraft meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and compliance through the employment of stated principles within the Company’s quality and safety management systems. This is a senior leadership role and involves overseeing maintenance activities, managing a team of maintenance professionals, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies.
Safety Culture
- Recognising safety as a core value in all decision making in the MRO.
- Giving leadership and direction to the application of the corporate safety and quality integrated management system within the MRO.
- Putting the safety management system into effect as it applies to the activities conducted in the MRO.
- Ensure the MRO QMS is strong and robust fostering procedural compliance within every layer of the organisation, with adequate resourcing to facilitate trend monitoring and procedural surveillance in order to achieve targeted safety outcomes.
- Taking accountability for identifying causal factors behind failures, determining and implementing corrective and preventative action and controlling risk within the MRO.
- Fostering a positive safety culture in the MRO, and by personal example, demonstrate a commitment to the safety management system.
- Ensure all staff within the MRO demonstrate a commitment to the safety management.
- Participation in the safety action group.
- Ensuring all maintenance occurrences are notified to the safety and quality management group and defect incidents are investigated in the prescribed manner.
Responsibilities:
- Providing recommendations/guidance and expert advice in the specialised field to the GM/MRO
- Assisting in identifying business risks and opportunities relating to engineering functions of the Company, recommending appropriate actions and implementing strategies where applicable.
- Assisting in reviewing new aircraft specifications and determining induction strategies and facilitating personal requirements to meet his plan.
Safety Culture:
Maintenance Management:
Oversee all maintenance activities for the aircraft fleet, ensuring compliance with manufacturer guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Develop, implement, and monitor maintenance schedules to optimize aircraft availability and operational efficiency.
Conduct regular audits and inspections of maintenance procedures and practices to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
Reporting and Compliance:
- Provide regular reports to the GMMRO on maintenance performance, safety issues, and compliance status.
- Ensure all maintenance documentation and records are accurately maintained and readily available for review by regulatory authorities.
- Providing support to the LAMES and the supervisors as required and in accordance with the Company’s Part 145 Exposition, and CASA regulations.
- In conjunction with the GM MRO, ensuring all aspects of the company quality and safety policies is met.
- Implementing all procedures, maintenance activity and defect rectifications and ensuring they are carried out in accordance with the standards and procedures in the Part 145 Exposition.
- Acting as Deputy GM MRO when the GM MRO is away on leave or company business.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, manage, and mentor maintenance personnel, including overseeing recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and career development.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.
- Manage shift schedules and allocate resources effectively to meet operational needs.
- In conjunction with the GM MRO, coordinate MRO HR requirements relating to recruitment, man power changes and staff training, developing KPI’s for the staff responsible and executing discipline matters.
Operational Coordination:
- Collaborate with CAMG, Flight Operations, MRO Stores, MRO Production Planning, Finance and other departments to ensure seamless integration of maintenance activities with flight schedules and operational demands.
- Provide support the Manager Technical Materials (“MTM”) in the management of relationships with parts suppliers and service providers to ensure timely procurement of necessary materials and services. Interface this objective with the GMCAMG, CEO and CFO.
- Oversee the execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks, ensuring minimal disruption to flight operations.
- Assist the GM MRO in reviewing and monitoring the division’s overall key performance indicators on a regular basis
Continuous Improvement:
- Analyze maintenance performance metrics and data to identify opportunities for improvement and implement corrective action..
- Stay current with advancements in maintenance technology and industry best practices to enhance maintenance operations.
- Develop and implement maintenance training programs to ensure the team’s skills and knowledge are up-to-date.
- Review Reliability Report with Manager Aircraft Maintenance to implement solutions for increasing aircraft availability and reliability, enhance and MEL functionality where applicable.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, and enhance productivity.
- Encourage a culture of innovation and creativity, empowering engineering staff to propose and implement new ideas and solutions.
- Monitor key performance indicators and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of engineering operations and drive performance improvement.
- Fleet Expansion:
- Assisting in reviewing new aircraft specifications and determining induction strategies and facilitating personal requirements to meet his plan.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost effective allocation of resources.
Monitor and control maintenance-related expenses, including labor, parts, and materials, to stay within budgetary constraints.
Risk Management:
- Providing recommendations/guidance and expert advice in the specialised field to the GM/MRO
- Assisting in identifying business risks and opportunities relating to engineering functions of the Company, recommending appropriate actions and implementing strategies where applicable.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments for engineering projects, addressing potential hazards and implementing appropriate controls.
- Develop contingency plans to manage unforeseen events and minimize disruptions to project timelines.

Required Skills
- Supervisory Management Skills: 5 to 6 years
- Kpi’s Management: 10 years or more
- Aviation Regulations: 6 to 7 years
- Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer: 10 years or more
- Aviation With Aircraft Acquisition: 10 years or more
- Turbo Pop Aircraft: 5 to 6 years
- Airline Commercial / Private Operations: 6 to 7 years

Candidate Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering,
- Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant vocational training combined with significant experience may also be considered.
Experience:
- At least 10 years of experience in aircraft maintenance, including a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Experience with turbo prop aircraft is required.
- Extensive experience in Aircraft Engineering and related environment with relevant formal qualifications.
Certification:
- Valid Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME) license or equivalent certification.
- Additional certifications specific to turbo prop aircraft are beneficial.
- General Airline experience with through knowledge in airline commercial/private operations.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- In-depth knowledge of aviation regulations, safety standards, and maintenance procedures.
- Proficiency in maintenance tracking systems and software.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and remote environment.

Technical Requirements:
- Has extensive engineering experience in a senior engineering role in aviation with aircraft acquisition experience.
- Have management skills and the ability to promote proactive, harmonious work culture.
- Displays a sound understanding of corporate business objective and plans including related operational policies and procedures and manual or computerized systems relating to maintenance system/documents control, data presentation.
