Job Title: HOD Engineering Manager – Mining Industry

Location: Northern Cape, South Africa

RPO Recruitment’s client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Department (HOD) Engineering Manager to join their mining operations in the Northern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the engineering department, overseeing all engineering activities, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of our mining facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, providing guidance and direction to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies, plans, and budgets to support operational excellence and long-term growth.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, policies, and standards.
  • Oversee the planning, design, and execution of engineering projects, including the maintenance and modernization of mining equipment and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with other departments, contractors, and suppliers to optimize performance, mitigate risks, and achieve production targets.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of engineering activities, providing regular reports, analysis, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Drive innovation and technology adoption to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and increase sustainability.

Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • GCC Mines & Works
  • Post graduate Management qualification
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as an appointed Section Engineer in the mining industry
  • Minimum 5 years Project Management experience
  • In-depth knowledge of mining operations, equipment, processes, and regulations.
  • Strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and project management expertise.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, adapt to changing priorities, and deliver results under pressure.
