Main Purpose: 

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for all activities related to the effective and professional compilation of proposals / tenders as well cost-effective, compliant, fit-for-purpose, safe engineering, design, construction support and commissioning assistance during the execution of projects. This shall be rendered in the Mining/Minerals and Water market segments

Key Performance Areas: 

Deliver engineered packages to comply to the overall project budget, schedule and quality standards

 Fit for purpose engineering and design in all required industry segments

 Manage hours, budgets and change / variations in a manner that enhances gross profits on projects

 Ensure that projects are executed in accordance with the relevant Client and company policies, procedures, and frameworks.

Construction, installation, and commissioning project support.

 Reporting as and when required

 Generate and develop equipment cost estimates, man-hour estimates and corresponding proposal documentation.

 Assist with the pricing of Tenders and Bids as required for each applicable market sector.

 Liaise with prospective and future Clients in terms of assessing their need, site visits, proposing solutions, costs-estimates, proposal   submittal, clarifications and follow-up.

 Generate scope of work specifications that define the work included, work excluded and battery limits along with technical requirements for   each equipment package.

 Compile technical enquiry packages, do technical tender evaluations and compile technical “Approved for Purchase” packages.

 Manage and interface with Vendors/Suppliers and Contractors to meet the project objectives.

 Manage and execute progress inspections, FAT’s and final releases for Vendor/Supplier equipment.

 Review Vendor/Supplier documentation for compliance with technical requirements.

 Maintain effective inter-discipline integration with other disciplines like the Process, Piping, Civil, Structural, C & I and Electrical   Departments.

 Provide detail input to plant reviews in terms of layout, equipment placing, maintainability, operability and all such related factors.

 Provide input into the development and optimisation of mechanical drawings and drive development of these drawings through the design   and drawing office.

 Provide input during project meetings, HAZOPS’s, client meetings, etc. 

 Do functional designs for pumps, piping, plate work, structures, supports etc. of minor and medium complexity and liaise with specialist   consultant on more complex items.

 Maintain and update the mechanical equipment list and other related registers and schedules.

 Execute all work in compliance with all relevant legislation, codes, standards, company policies & procedures.

 Provide office-based construction and commission support and from time-to-time attend site visits during the construction period.

Minimum Requirements:

 Proven track record of 6 years plus relevant mechanical engineering experience in related work within the Mining/Minerals/Water projects   environment, is required for this position.

 Experience with a wide range of mechanical equipment such as pumps, cranes and hoists, compressed air systems, tanks, vessels, fire   water systems, fans, screens, membrane technologies, settling tanks, mixers, aerators, blowers, etc. 

 Working experience in feasibility studies and project execution is required while site-based experience during construction and/or   commissioning is highly recommended.

 Discipline specific engineering skills.

 B.Sc. / B.Eng  or B Tech Mechanical Engineering

 Professional Engineer Certification (ECSA) required
