Job Description


We have a fabulous on-site job opportunity for a Business Unit Director (BUD) to fill a Client Lead role working on innovative, fun tech account at a full-service agency in Cape Town.
In this exciting role, you will be one of two senior client leads at the agency – guiding the Client Service team and agency across all departments on the scope and requirement of jobs coming into the agency. You’ll also be tasked with taking proactive ownership of the client’s account from a business perspective. Ultimately, you’ll be responsible for nurturing a robust and enduring working relationship between the agency and the client while identifying areas to optimise and opportunities for growth.
 
The BUD ensures that personal and team objectives are set against business objectives and measured accordingly. In addition to reporting, you will manage client and agency performance reviews. In charge of the overall financial management of accounts in both retainers and SOW campaigns, you will issue and gain client approval on project estimates.

Responsibilities
 
 
People Management
 
    • Accountable for the overall success of the team, including motivating them, and delegating towards personal and career achievement.
    • Ensuring that personal and team objectives are set against business objectives and measured accordingly.
    • Providing guidance and training and mentorship as necessary, building a commitment to learning.
    • Managing capacity in the team relating to portfolio, leave approvals, sick leave, etc.
    • Assisting with recruitment and performance reviews of team members.
 
 
Client Relationship Management
 
    • Ensuring clients get the best service from the team, from negotiating agreements through to meetings and reporting.
    • Ensuring clients stay informed and energised about the work
    • Managing client expectation versus agency commitments, including having difficult client discussions if needed, to protect the agency reputation.
    • Managing client and agency performance reviews.
 
 
Project Management
 
    • Managing the project management team for delivery on client campaigns, from planning phase through to implementation.
    • Ensuring that all projects are delivered on time.
    • Keeping projects aligned with overall brand strategy.
    • Managing the strategic, creative development and production of creative campaigns.
    • Informing agency of deadlines (go-live dates, presentation dates, etc.)
    • Leading internal status meetings with the agency to make sure everyone’s on the same page.
 
 
Strategy
 
    • Overall management of the internal team and client during strategy – including briefing, ideations and presentations,  to ensure agency outputs are aligned with brand strategies. Help brand teams make informed decisions regarding the brand.
    • Engaging clients regarding brand performance and disseminating this information so that it is useful to rest of the team.
 
 
Financial Management
 
    • Complete commercial packs and resourcing on key brands.
    • Work and sign off commercial packs with MD.
    • Managing quarterly resourcing vs retainer and SOW updates with client.
    • Overall financial management of accounts in both retainers and SOW campaigns.
    • Forecasting client SOW spend for internal agency.
    • Issuing and gaining Client approval on project estimates.
    • Alerting Client of any changes in costs, budget, spending, etc.
 
 
Competitive/Industry Tracking
 
    • Your role is also to be an expert on new happenings related to advertising within your client’s categories
    • Keep abreast of evolving advertising trends, and how they may affect your work.
 
 
 
Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:
 
  • Client service experience in a BUD position
  • Previous advertising agency experience – non-negotiable  
  • Understanding of Digital
