Senior Conceptual Copywriter

We are seeking a talented and creative copywriter who is well-versed in current trends on various creative media platforms, TTL,TV, radio, animation, film and video. The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of social media best practices, campaigns, excellent writing skills, and the ability to create engaging and compelling copy that resonates with our target audience. You must possesses a deep understanding of South African culture and be able to incorporate vernacular language when creating content. Knowledge of other international languages would be beneficial for this role. 

We are a creative agency based in Johannesburg, and we are looking for a conceptual copywriter with exceptional skills and aspiration to grow into a creative director role. 

You should be a confident people’s person, that has a strong understanding of creative principles with strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. You will be working closely with the senior art director / designer to become the dream team!

Responsibilities:

• Attend and co-lead creative sessions for project kick-offs
• Translate the brief and strategic requirements into compelling creative solutions and scripts, ensuring that its aligned with client tonality and style
• Create and update style guides per brand
• Work with the creative team to develop concepts and present to management and clients, including proofreading of presentations.
• Establish creative direction with the senior art director / designer, for campaigns
• Manage multiple projects from concept through to completion.
• Guide the art director / designer during the creation of storyboards for film and animation with internal reviews.
• Write punching copy for packaging design
• Copywriting / script quality control on all concepts and projects
• Develop and implement social media content strategies that align with our brand voice and objectives
• Create engaging and culturally relevant copy that resonates with the South African audience
• Incorporate vernacular language and cultural references into marketing materials
• Research and stay up-to-date on trends in South African culture and language usage
• Translate and adapt content for international markets when necessary  
• Collaborate with the marketing team to create cohesive and effective social media campaigns
• Monitor and analyse the performance of social media content to optimise engagement and reach

Required:

• Possess a thorough understanding of interactive communications and delivery systems, processes, user interface and industry best practices
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field
• Proven experience as a social media copywriter or similar role
• Strong understanding of social media platforms and their respective best practices
• Proven experience as a copywriter with a focus on South African culture – Strong understanding of vernacular language and cultural nuances 
•  Knowledge of other international languages is a plus 
• Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
• 5 – 6 years’ experience in a relevant field
• Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling abilities.
• Have a good knowledge of copywriting for TTL, including branding, print, packaging and web
• Must understand video / animation and digital elements in order to write scripts and assist with art direction of the storyboards.
• Ability to work within the project budget
• Ability to make evaluative and calculated judgments
• Must be creative, imaginative and curious about our clients’ products and services
