In-house Legal Counsel (Sandton)
Job Description
The legal function within the business is pivotal in partnering with relevant stakeholders to drive key accountabilities, providing legal and strategic advice on a variety of commercial and regulatory aspects.
Reporting into the Head of Legal, the in-house legal counsel will operate in numerous areas simultaneously, working within our client’s group of companies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Duties will be split across Commercial, Regulatory, Litigation and dispute resolution, Team leadership and General responsibilities.
- End-to-end management of the contract process, providing prompt contractual advice including but not limited to Marketing, Sponsorship, Banking, Software and Finance, Product Terms and Conditions; Non-Disclosure Agreements; Service Level Agreements; Data Sharing and Software Agreements; Brand License Agreements; Gaming and Industry Specific Agreements; Technology, Media and Telecommunications contracts, as well as letters and general legal documents
- Oversee, guide and advise on drafting and reviewing of commercial and business agreements
- Research and respond to general legal enquiries and communicate the legal process throughout the business as required.
- Advice regarding licences, ensuring regulatory legal issues are adequately managed, supporting the regulatory framework and liaising with in-country legal counsel across various jurisdictions to facilitate advice provided to the business.
- Oversee and provide counsel on any potential disputes and manage the relationship with external and in-country legal counsel as needed.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Qualified lawyer and admitted attorney in South Africa.
- Between 5 and 10 years post-qualification experience at a corporate entity or law firm.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- In-house experience or illustrating a commercial mindset is advantageous.
- A practical lawyer with an interest in sport and sponsorships (as a plus).
- Professional, honest and reliable.
- Resilient and assertive.
- Ambitious and hungry for career development.
- Confident and demonstrates the ability to go beyond what is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate at various levels.
