Job Summary:
The Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of an electronic waste management company. This role requires a versatile individual with experience in health and safety, sales administration, human resources, and transport and logistics. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, capable of managing multiple departments and ensuring the company operates efficiently and in compliance with all relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management:
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring recycling processes run efficiently and in line with production goals.
- Manage the collection, sorting, dismantling, and recycling of electronic waste, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve operational performance, reduce costs, and maximise productivity.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely procurement of materials and parts.
- Implement and maintain waste management protocols for hazardous materials.
2. Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all operations comply with environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and industry certifications.
- Manage the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in line with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits, training, and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment.
3. Team Leadership:
- Manage and lead the operations team, including recycling technicians, logistics staff, and warehouse workers.
- Recruit, train, and develop team members to ensure high levels of performance.
- Foster a positive, safety-conscious, and efficient work culture.
4. Logistics and Supply Chain Management:
- Oversee logistics for the transportation of electronic waste to and from the facility.
- Ensure timely and efficient delivery of processed materials to clients and recycling partners.
- Manage relationships with suppliers, vendors, and third-party contractors.
5. Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and present regular operational reports, including performance metrics, cost analysis, and compliance documentation.
- Analyse production data to identify areas for improvement and implement operational changes as needed.
- Collaborate with senior management to align operational goals with the overall business strategy.
6. Process Improvement:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance recycling processes, increase efficiency, and reduce waste.
- Introduce and manage new technologies and innovations in recycling practices.
7. Budget and Financial Management:
- Manage the operational budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
- Track operational expenses and make recommendations for cost-saving initiatives.
- Work with finance teams to forecast budgets, manage purchasing, and monitor cash flow.
Education:
- Relevant Operations Management Diploma
- Certifications in waste management, environmental management, or similar fields are advantageous.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in operations management, preferably within the recycling, waste management, or manufacturing industries.
- Experience with health and safety regulations and environmental compliance.
- Proven experience in managing large teams and complex operations.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of electronic waste recycling processes.
- Knowledge of logistics, supply chain management, and warehouse operations.
- Proficiency in operational software, inventory management systems, and data analytics tools.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
