Cost Accountant

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain costing systems for all manufacturing processes.
- Monitor and analyze actual production costs versus system costs, identifying variances and investigating the causes.
- Re-cost existing products and perform costings for new products.
- Prepare detailed reports on cost performance, variances, and profitability for management.
- Ensure accurate allocation of overhead costs to production activities.
- Create and update Bill of Materials on the ERP system.
- Collaborate with the inventory team to manage and analyze inventory movements and valuations.
- Conduct periodic inventory audits and reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
- Calculate and monitor slow-moving or obsolete inventory, recommending actions to management.
- Ensure all stock in the ERP system has accurate cost and selling prices.
- Assist with stocktakes and cycle counts when necessary.
- Assist in preparing annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
- Work closely with production and procurement teams to forecast material and labor costs.
- Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual cost accounting reports for internal stakeholders.
- Support the finance team during audits by providing detailed cost-related information.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, financial regulations, and internal control policies.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement in manufacturing activities.
- Implement cost control procedures to monitor production efficiency and resource utilization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Studying towards or CIMA qualified (advantageous).
- 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, inventory management, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (Syspro proficiency preferred).
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to handle large data sets.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to interpret financial data.
- Strong communication skills for effective cross-departmental collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to timely task completion.
