RPO Recruitment’s client, a well-established renewable energy firm in South Africa, is currently seeking a qualified and experienced General Manager who can join their team in Johannesburg and contribute positively towards the success of their projects.

 

The successful incumbent will be based in Johannesburg and be required to travel to site in the Eastern Cape from time to time.  The ideal candidate will be an experienced South African citizen with a strong background in management, preferably in the engineering, maintenance or power industry.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the board and the shareholders.
  • Assist in ensuring preparation of Monthly Reports, cash flows, financial statements and budget to be reported to the shareholders and the board.
  • Develop, prepare and present regular progress updates and other reports to that effect, including monthly and quarterly progress reports for the Board of Directors and shareholder’s companies.
  • Management and enforcement of Operating and Maintenance contract with the O&M supplier.
  • Management and enforcement of other contracts that the company has with third parties, specifically with the lenders under the Finance Documents, with DoE under Implementation Agreement and with Eskom Holdings SOC limited or National Transmission Company of SA who is the off-taker under the Power Purchase Agreement.
  • Recruit, develop, retain and manage personnel resources for operations of the wind farm driving professional standards and matrix development of personnel.
  • Management of ED compliance and supporting ED Manager with project sustainability; and reporting to the DoE.
  • Health & Safety – Act as 16.1 (CEO) in terms of the OHSA.
  • Health & Safety – oversight on the H&S plans, methods statements and procedures, risk assessments, emergency response and identification of hazards in the work environment.
  • Environmental- – oversee the compliance with EIA and Environmental Management Plan and changes in regulations.
  • Present a positive professional face of the SPV in community and industry body.
  • Manage stakeholder relations with Landowners, Lenders, DoE, Eskom and Shareholders
  • Risk management
  • Act as Seller’s representative
  • Lead and set objectives for the team and manage performance appraisal process.
  • Ensure compliance with all contractual, legal and regulatory requirements through development of procedures in agreement with the Board of Directors, including taking action for the Project Company to comply with the statutory formalities under the Companies Act and other applicable laws.
  • Responsible for preventing and solving any potential issues or disputes that may arise, in coordination with the Board of Directors, to protect project revenues.
  • Ensure that the insurance coverage and policies are in place (covering but not limited to the requirements in the Project Agreements).
  • Responsible for the development and application of appropriate policies, in view of comply with all rules and procedures of the Company’s shareholders regarding reporting, planning and budgeting, construction, ethical and governance practices, health and safety, environment and risk assessment in order to maintain high standing policy.

 

Requirements:

  • BSc/BEng degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field with management experience, or an Associate’s Degree in a Technical or Business related field with a minimum of 5 years of field leadership experience
  • Advanced degree or MBA from an accredited institution in management
  • Demonstrated interpersonal & communication skills to work in team
  • Strong analytical capabilities and ability to thrive in cross-functional and team environments
  • Ability to work effectively within all levels of the organisation
  • Executive presentation skills
  • Government Ticket a bonus
  • Preferably knowledge of network infrastructure, communication protocols & wind energy
  • Preferably wind turbine, production or rotating equipment experience
  • Proven record of P&L responsibilities and direct report experience of 5 employees
  • Contract management and commercial law understanding
