PROGRAMME COORDINATOR – POST-GRADUATE QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION FACULTY)

Job Purpose:
The Online Programme Success Tutor is responsible and accountable for the overall effective and efficient academic student support, success, and retention rates of RC Distance students within designated programmes. Additional responsibility relates to the support of the IIE learning strategies to promote student engagement and success. Support/ lecturing may be provided outside normal working hours as the norm in distance education.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Lecturing
- Lecturing at least one module to a minimum of 2 groups online. Lesson preparation, marking and moderation as required.
- Keeping records of all work and submit to line manager/ as required
- May be after normal working hours
Research
- Research commitment of an action research project dealing with Online related topics and or innovation in the distance delivery mode. At least one Academic article in a given academic year is the minimum research requirement.
Tutor Support
- Conduct Peer Reviews
- Assist in development plans, monitoring, reporting and remediation (if necessary) for independent tutors
- Holding sectional subject matter workshops as determined by the line manager
- Attending to and providing continuous support at risk student and other referrals
- Support LMS navigation and attendant innovations
- Monitor student progress on LMS
- Assist in module monitoring and provide regular written reports
- Review Independent Contractor assessment practices
- Ensuring Independent Contractors/ tutors have all needed resources
- Updating Independent Contractors/ tutors on all software and other resource changes
- May be after normal working hours
Student Support
- Conduct student Orientation, Conducting onboarding activities for students,
- Conduct student Development Workshops (Plagiarism; Study Skills, Numeracy and Literacy Skills, etc.);
- Plan and facilitate peer engagement sessions; Create study communities for students; Arrange motivational sessions online.
- Monitor student engagement identify and support at risk students; Monitor student progress; Communicate curriculum to students
- Analyse and track student performance and implement appropriate interventions.
- Identify and implement interventions for At-Risk Students.
- Integrate student support services on the Learning Management system (LMS) or RCLearn
- Plan the preparation and submission of assignments.
- Coordinate WIL sessions and track academic progress and submission of PoEs;
- Initiate Disciplinary Enquiries/Hearings as per need;
- May be after normal working hours
Programme Development & Review
- Conduct Surveys and provide report/s among the students covering service, module and tutor feedback or any other feedback mechanism as required.
Staffing
- Assist with the recruitment process for tutors for allocated programmes; and conduct tutor development, training and review as directed
Miscellaneous
- Any other functions that support learning as assigned from time to time.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications
Minimum
- Master’s in Education (NQF Level 9) or related qualification fields
Ideal
- Doctorate/PHD (NQF Level 10) qualification in Education or related fields – Ideal
Experience
- 3-5 years’ Experience in the teaching and learning field, specifically lecturing and student support in the tertiary environment.

- Ability to maintain good working relationships with Division, Brand and campus employees, training service providers and other regulatory authorities.
