Job Description


The Assistant to the Operations Manager will support various on-site tasks, with

responsibilities ranging from general handyman work to welding and machinery operation.

This role requires someone who is physically fit, reliable, and safety-conscious, with the

ability to work flexible hours, including late shifts and overtime. A strong family and support

structure is essential for this demanding role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. General Handyman Tasks:
  • Perform routine maintenance, repair work, and odd jobs to ensure the site operates smoothly.
  • Carry out general site upkeep, including equipment checks, minor repairs, and cleaning tasks.
  • Assist in the assembly and setup of operational equipment, structures, and machinery.

 

  1. Work at Heights:
  • Perform tasks that require working at heights, such as building maintenance, scaffolding, or equipment repair.
  • Strictly follow all safety protocols, including the use of fall protection and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure work at heights is conducted in a safe and responsible manner, minimizing risks.

 

  1. Welding and Equipment Operation:
  • Carry out welding tasks as directed, maintaining a high level of safety and precision.
  • Operate earth-moving equipment, ensuring safety measures are followed during use.
  • Conduct routine checks on equipment to ensure proper operation and report any malfunctions.

 

  1. Ad Hoc Projects:
  • Provide assistance on various projects initiated by the Operations Manager, adapting to the needs of each project.
  • Help with project setup, execution, and problem-solving as required.
  • Take initiative in solving small operational issues and providing hands-on support.

 

  1. Overtime and Late Hours:
  • Be available for extended work hours, including overtime and late shifts when needed to meet operational deadlines.
  • Maintain flexibility in scheduling, understanding the demands of the site may require irregular working hours.

 

  1. Safety and Compliance:
  • Follow all safety protocols, including the use of PPE and adherence to safety guidelines, especially when working at heights or with heavy machinery.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed in compliance with company safety standards.
  • Report any safety concerns immediately to the Operations Manager and participate in safety drills and training.

 

  1. Family and Support Structure:
  • Maintain a solid family and support structure, understanding that the demands of the role require flexibility and potential for long hours.
  • Ensure personal well-being to maintain a high level of productivity and focus on the job.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience with general handyman tasks, welding, and operating machinery.
  • Comfort working at heights and the ability to follow strict safety protocols.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and late shifts when necessary.
  • Strong physical health and stamina for demanding work.
  • A reliable family and support structure to manage the demands of the role.
  • Integrity, trustworthiness, and a willingness to learn.
  • Driver’s License
  • South African License
